When in doubt — call us. We'd rather you call and find out it's not an emergency than wait and make things worse.
Follow these steps while you wait to see us — then call immediately.
Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root). Rinse gently with water — don't scrub. Place it back in the socket if possible, or keep it in milk. Call us immediately — time is critical!
Rinse with warm salt water. Take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed. Do NOT put aspirin directly on the tooth or gums. Call us right away.
Save any pieces if possible. Rinse your mouth with warm water. Apply gauze if there's bleeding. Call us to schedule an emergency appointment.
If a crown falls off, try to place it back over the tooth temporarily with dental cement (available at drugstores). Call us as soon as possible to have it properly replaced.
An abscess is a serious infection that can spread. Signs include severe toothache, fever, swelling, and a pimple-like bump on the gums. Call us immediately or go to the emergency room if we're unavailable.
